Footprint and Operating Requirements

The ColdBlock Digestion System is designed so that the digester operates within a standard fume hood, the controller sits on bench space and is connected via cable and the chiller sits on the floor connected by hoses. The digester has a footprint of approximately 9.25” W x 23.5” L x 11” H and a weight of 35lbs. The controller has a footprint of approximately 8” W x 24” L x 24” H and weighs approximately 40 lbs. The chiller has an approximate footprint of 15” W x 26” L x 21.8” H and an approximate weight of 180lbs.

The ColdBlock Digestion System requires a 30 A, 208-240 V circuit with NEMA L6-30 outlet.

The fume hood should have a draw of at least 400 cu ft./min (0.03 m3/min).

A recirculating chiller is required for use with a ColdBlock digester to promote the condensation effect during digestion. These are the recommended chiller requirements:

  • Max. ambient temperature 30 C
  • Min. cooling temperature -10 C
  • 1200 W cooling capacity at 20 C
  • Min. reservoir volume 1 gal/3.8 L
  • Min. lift or head 15 ft/5 m

Product Range, Sample Sizes and Throughput

One controller, up to 4 digesters, 2 sets of test tubes (per digester), 2 test tube racks (per digester), 2 test tube transfer trays (per digester), a chiller hose, and an optional chiller.

ColdBlock builds in the ability to scale up to using up to four digesters that can be run from a single controller provided it is on a dedicated 50 A circuit.

ColdBlock’s heating and cooling zone technologies allow for digestion in as little as 10-30 minutes for many sample types. Click here to see application notes on a wide variety of samples.

Test tube sizes of 50, 100, and 200mL are available in borosilicate and can also be ordered in quartz. Disposable test tube liners are also available to accommodate digestion using HF.

ColdBlock S is ideal for samples up to 2 g, ColdBlock M is ideal for samples up to 5 g and the ColdBlock L is ideal for samples up to 30 g.

Maintenance, Parts & Warranty

ColdBlock digesters are robust, corrosion resistant, and require minimal maintenance. We recommend cleaning any spills inside the unit as soon as it has cooled down enough to safely do so and wiping down the inside of the unit with a damp cloth once a month depending on usage.

The lamps used in ColdBlock digesters are rated for 5,000 hours (about 7 months) and will last for several years of service.

ColdBlock Technologies carries a stock of lamps and test tubes and can easily ship out replacements. Simply contact us for any extra accessories you require.

ColdBlock Digestion Systems come with a fullyear warranty. If you are experiencing any issues with your ColdBlock unit, simply contact us and we will work with you to get you up and running again as soon as possible.
